Activities: Snorkeling in Phuket

During the high season, which runs from the end of October until end of April or early May, the waters around Phuket are smooth as glass and offer a fine opportunity to explore and discover the underwater world through snorkeling.
Many of Phuket's beaches have fine snorkeling opportunities. In the southern part of Phuket, Ya Nui Beach, Laem Ka Beach and the tiny Ao Sane Beach are home to decent coral and present the opportunity to see many types of fish, as well as the occasional snake or eel. These beaches are small, and tend to get crowded at the height of the season. We recommend an early morning snorkeling excursion.
Other popular beaches for snorkeling in Phuket are located on the west and northwest coast and include Laem Singh, Kata, Kata Noi, Naithon Beach and Paradise Beach. The snorkeling at Naithon Beach is exceptionally nice, and on a clear day at Paradise Beach you can see straight to the ocean floor.
Some beaches in Phuket rent out snorkeling gear, however, if you plan to do a lot of snorkeling while on holiday it is best to purchase your own equipment. Equipment can be found in most beachside shops as well as in Phuket's bigger shopping centres.
Island excursions off of Phuket also offer some good snorkeling, with Coral Island perhaps being the best island to enjoy starfish, coral and a wide array of fish.
Enjoy your snorkeling in Phuket, but make sure you wear sunscreen!
