Attractions: Phuket Aquarium

Established in 1983, the Phuket Aquarium is part of the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC) which is a research and monitoring station within the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR). The aquarium functions as a way of communicating research results and to promote environmental awareness. To this day, it is one of Phuket's most visited attractions.

Phuket Aquarium is home to a wide variety of rays, sharks, grouper, snapper, wrasse and many more. It is an interesting place to get up close and personal with marine creatures you may have not seen before. The aquarium has over 30 tanks of freshwater and saltwater creatures to look at and learn about.

The main attraction of the Phuket Aquarium is 'the tunnel' which is essentially a very large tank with a tunnel through the middle. Inside the tunnel, visitors find themselves surrounded by many fish and sharks. Visit the Phuket Aquarium around lunchtime and witness a true feeding frenzy.

The exhibits at Phuket Aquarium are labeled in both Thai and English, and are very informative. There are also some varieties of sea turtles at the aquarium being rehabilitated.

Phuket Aquarium is open daily from 8:30am until 16:00pm, and there is a minimal entrance fee. More information can be found at phuketaquarium.org
